I am probably the last to know this, but the McDonalds here sell quarter pounder burgers. The last time we had quarter pounders in Singapore was what? 1980?
Of course, as anyone who has seen Pulp Fiction is aware, the quarter pounder here is called Royal. Royal Cheese is Royal with cheese, Royal Bacon has cheese plus a round slice of bacon.
The Royal Bacon is delicious. I still cannot get over that I liked it so much, even more than the fries. Back to the Royal Bacon, it comes in a box; when I opened the box, I saw a sesame seed bun with the meat patty that is actually wider than the bun, as well as two slices of melted processed cheese and a ring of bacon. The bacon looked so much like bak kwa, I thought I was hallucinating. The patty was meaty, a little dry as expected but there was the bacon, the trashy-good fake cheese, the pillowy sweet bun, the fresh chopped onions and the tangy gherkin slices all playing their strong supporting roles, and the result is a most tasty burger. I didn't believe husband when he told me it was good, in the end I ate more than him even though we were supposed to be sharing.
You know what else is amazing? The Royal Bacon costs 1.95 EUD (< 4 SGD), a steal compared to a large fries which is 2.30. The chi-chi club-restaurant opposite my apartment sells burgers at an obscene price of 41 EUD (~82 SGD) which works out to a mindboggling equivalent of 20 Royal Bacons!
